Product Information

This is the first macro photo lens designed to achieve a high magnification greater than 1x without additional accessories. It is ideal for small subjects. The designed optical formula and UD-glass elements suppress chromatic aberrations which become apparent at high magnifications.

  • Canon MP-E 65 mm lens

This is a specialized Canon macro lens that can only take macro photos and nothing else. So don't think that it can double as a 65 mm portrait lens - unless you are taking a portrait of the eye alone. That said it is a fantastic macro lens that can magnify from 1x to 5x which allows you to photograph the smallest objects - insects, electronic components, flower petals and the like. Just remember that the more you magnify the less depth of field you will get. At 5x the depth of field will be measured in 1/10 of a millimeter, so you will need a lot of light in order to obtain the macro photos you know from magazines and the like. Anyway - this Canon macro lens will give you hours of challenging macro photography and a lot of fun. Highly recommended - but don't buy it as ...

  • Great step up on the 1:1 macro

A major step up from my 1:1 macro lens, sharp images. It took a bit of work to get to grips with it but now i find it easy to use. Manual focus only but that's fine as I use it mainly on a focusing rail.

  • Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens

The lens is excellent quality well made yes a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Not for the faint hearted as it is fiddly to use, but if you want to get right in close to your subject you won't get a better lens. For best results you will need a focus rail to fine tune focusing.

  • If you are the sort who go around with a magnfying glass, this is for you

Good, because it does things no other lens does Bad, because it is an old design, overdue for an update Good, sensible size and weight, comparable to 24-105L lens Good, build quality very solid Bad, effective aperture is small to tiny Bad, 6 blade iris gives poor out of focus artifacts sometimes Bad, no image stabiliser; difficult to frame subject Essential compromise between depth of field and diffraction Good pictures to about 3x with small flash on hotshoe For better results, budget for a MT24EX. Ringlights too `flat" Come on Canon, give this lens a refresh and give us camera firmware for automatic focus bracketing around the manual focus point. That would be a winner

  • Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 Super Macro Lens

If you want to take extreme macro photo's this lens can give you incredibly detailed shots. It is quite heavy, very well constructed and is fitted with an integral adjustable tripod support. Magnification / focusing is entirely manual using the large smoothly operating ring. In use it is virtually essential to use a very sturdy tripod and for most shots a ring flash or similar unit. It is also helpful to use an adjustable table to move camera, lens etc on the tripod to get the focus needed. Alternatively the subject can be focused using an adjustable table to move the subject rather than the camera. Depth of field is limited. At the highest 5 x magnification sharp focusing is limited to 1 to 2 mm. I have used other macro lenses which have been easier to operate but none ...
