Works surprisingly well
Brought to try and control a rat problem at my grandmother's house. We strongly suspect one of her neighbours is overfeeding the birds and it's got to the point that I'll walk though the gate and see them all scurrying away. One of the other neighbours has been putting poison down and judging by the half dead rodents that does seem to be having an effect but it's expensive not to mention cruel. At first I tried a "Nooski" rat trap but they just seem to climb all over it and set it off, and after a few times start giving it a wide berth - I've seen them do it. So I gave this a try. I've been baiting it up with peanut butter, setting it and then hoisting it with the aid of a broom handle down the side of the shed. You are supposed to use a specific box with this to protect other animals ... Brought to try and control a rat problem at my grandmother's house. So far 5 dead rats in 3 days including a pretty big one which I suspect given the size is the mother. Yes, it appears it can take pretty big rats. The only downside is the mess; it looks like they're being cautious in their approach and this means the bar tends to come down on the head rather than the neck. Normally there's only a bit of blood but one rodent ended up with a head which looked like it had been run over by a car. They will also cannibalise a body which has been left in the trap for too long and so you might only find parts attached to a hide if left for more than around 24 hours. It might also be a good idea to tie or anchor the trap if you cannot place it somewhere where scavenger rats could conceivably drag everything away. I have some bricks in the way so it's easier to just chew though things rather than struggle with a large, awkward mass though a tight narrow gap.
