Additional Information
Directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi (who also created the best-selling series of video games that inspired the film), the groundbreaking FINAL FANTASY, which stars a startlingly lifelike cast of animated characters, is the first photo-realistic computer-generated feature film ever made. In the year 2065, Earth has been taken over by a race of alien phantoms and transformed into a barren wasteland sprinkled with dome-enclosed barrier cities--the last remaining bastions of human civilization. Dr. Aki Ross (voiced by actress Ming-Na) has teamed up with Captain Gray Edwards (Alec Baldwin) to search for the "eighth spirit," a powerful entity dwelling in an unknown life form somewhere on the planet. It holds the key to perfecting a system of energy waves that will neutralize the phantoms. Ross's opponent is the reckless General Hein (James Woods), who is determined to put a stop to the alien invasion by firing a satellite cannon directly into a nest of phantoms located deep within the Earth, even though this could mean obliterating the planet itself and all life upon it.

Excellent quality brand new item at a very good price. The package arrived 2 days later than expected due to delays in the Royal Mail 2nd class postage system which were outside the control of the sender. Would recommend this seller - would buy from again.

  • Great graphics!

I wouldn't call this movie an animated feature! It's certainly not a Cartoon. It is however a heavily Computer generated feature, almost an art form, really. The first few moments are visually strange since you have to get used to the effect, not knowing whether the character's have substance or not. The mind seems to adapt eventually to the visual wonder of this film though, accepting the graphics within their own heavily synthetic guise. Set in the year 2065 (which doesn't seem that far ahead does it really)? If you like your Sci-Fi (as I do) and fancy something visually interesting, this one is probably worth a look. It's the Alien invasion theme yet again, threatening human existence (if you can call the characters human). Even the disguise of presentation though cannot distract ...

  • The Spirit Within The Fantasy

As a big fan of Square Enix productions as a general rule, I was both happy and disappointed with this effort at big-screen success. Fans of the Final Fantasy franchise were divided over the direction the film should go, action-based or storyline-orientated. In the end, the action is very 'realistic', without having superhuman abilities you expect from a hero in these fantasy tales they still combat an evil with inhuman capabilities. It was always going to be a tough task to condense what is usual an epic storyline into 102mins of film, and there is a lot of retrospective narrating to compensate for that. There are over 4 hours of extras on the special edition DVD which is well-worth investing in. The core strength of Final Fantasy though is in its ability to make you emotive towards ...
