JVC Everio GZ-MG36 HDD Camcorder
I wanted an HD camcorder for some time but they were quite expensive and I originally had my eyes on a canon HV20, which I will eventually get but in the meantime I needed to get something in which I could get some practice in. The JVC cost me £165 on eBay, which is a bargain as it retailed at £250. What I liked about the JVC is it's ease of use and various manual controls. I had read the reviews on "simply DV" which gave it an ok review. The video quality is good, not outstanding but reasonable for the price. It's big let down is shooting in low light conditions which is not at all good but can be improved with a bit of software manipulation. The 32x optical zoom is a plus point and it's fairly light weight and has a image stabilizer which works fairly well. ... Another annoying aspect is that I have a mac and although imovie 08 the JVC eventually, it's quite a long winded process involving imovie crashing a couple of times.If I had paid £250 I would have bought a Panasonic 3CDD model. I'll eventually put some footage on youtube so you guys can make a more informed judgement. In conclusion this camcorder is a good model for £165 as long as you shoot in daylight, pay anymore then I'd be buying a Panasonic,sony or canon with a DV input rather than USB. JVC Everio range is very good if you have a PC and £600 to spend.But by far and away the Canon HV20 for the price and the quality is a camcorder everyone should own, and I will be submitting a review one I get one.
