Domi & JD bought me here, heard them first, then Madvillain. Madvillainy is the product of found and cut up sampling to create a whole, original in its borrowing. Except, the ultimate whole final product is only really formed and satisfingly realised in the final act of Domi and JD's interpretations. This record is a stepping-off point. Its traditional cut up repetion is both quaint and historical, almost De La Soul like, but the angular disjointedness of the beats and melodies, whilst one one hand, understandable due to the selection and process, on the other, leaves a curious cliche world of randon emotion. Domi & JD don't use words so they can't be accused of such. By remaining instrumental they have found a purer Madvillainy that is hinted at here but unrealsed in the sampler microphone and found street conjecture. Read full review
