Why is Dad's Army so popular?
Why is Dad's Army so popular, 30 years after the last episode was aired, and more than 60 years after the time in which it is set? I believe it is the characters, and the fact that we probably all know someone like one of them - pompous Captain Mainwaring, laid-back Sergeant Wilson, confused Lance Corporal Jones, prophet of doom Private Fraser, doddery Private Godfrey, stupid boy Pike or Private Walker the spiv. And the catchphrases - Fall in if you wouldn't mind awfully, Don't panic, Stupid boy, and They don't like it up 'em. We all know what's coming, but I think that makes it all the more appealing. Five episodes are included. My personal favourite is The Honourable Man, in which Sergeant Wilson is on the outer fringes of the aristocracy due to a relative dying, and Mainwaring is most ... This is a fantastic example of classic British comedy, which is still very funny today. My 6-year-old watched this an laughed all the way through.
