Sharp lens!
An excellent lens. The wide aperture gives a beautiful bokeh and excellent shutter speed. The build quality is great, and it's heavier than a lot of large, cheap zoom lenses, e.g. the Tamron 70-300.

Great Minolta lens worth every penny. Good Colours, Very SHARP Wide Open.
It's a sharp lens with the particularity of the beautiful colours of Minolta lenses. Materials are great since it's made of steel. It's kinda heavy but I like them like that. Has little problem with Flare.

A truly superb prime lens from the extensive Minolta back-catalogue (RS version)
There are 2 versions of this lens and this review relates to the RS version. Where do you start? It's a phenomenally good bit of kit and delivers superb quality results in spades. The body is built from high grade plastic and has a very nice ribbed rubber focus ring, though the RS lens has a lens hood. The nearest of all the 50mm prime lenses that produces similar results are both the MIN50F28 and MIN50F35 Macro lenses which make for a much better option to the standard metal/glass kit model. I've never used or owned this lens model before and I can now understand what all the hype is about unlike some other models I can think of. The colours, bokeh, sharpness and overall construction is first class and it's also very ergonomically designed. Coupled with it being lightweight, it's one ... However, the SAL-50F14 has 8 contacts which enables the ADI flash function and it's likely to have different lens coatings, but it's widely accepted that the Minolta produces better colours than the Sony version, and for many, that's reason enough to opt for the Minolta RS version. This is definitely one lens I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a top quality 50mm prime, though either of the Minolta AF 50mm Macro lenses would also be a great choice.
