In the fall of 2017, my best friend and I made the decision to take to the road in an RV with our four cats. It was a scary thought, as we imagined all that could go wrong: everything from a cat escaping on us to our cats getting hurt in an accident to any one of them just not being happy in a small space. We spent time reading information from a variety of blogs and websites. While these had great information, none of them covered all of the topics we were looking for. We tried to think of everything in terms of how to make the space safe and comfortable while also providing for entertainment and exercise. Even with all of the preparations, once we began our life on the road, we discovered that there was still a lot we had overlooked. We had some anxious moments and a few mishaps (like my cat, Gatsby, escaping through the slide in the screen door...more than once) and we learned a lot in the process. Our cats are now very well adjusted and very happy with their new life. They are happier than they were in their stationary life, and we cannot imagine them going back to their old life.In this book, I have compiled tips for getting ready to travel with your cat or cats in an RV. I cover the journey from preparations to your vehicle and what to bring for kitty from home to what to prepare for on travel days and whether to leash train your cat for outside time. These tips are based on our experiences. It is my hope that these tips will offer reassurances in your decision to live in an RV with your cat(s) and in what you are doing to prepare for this new adventure. I also hope to reduce the trial-and-error and anxious moments by covering some less than obvious and easily overlooked aspects of RV travel with cats.In spite of what it might seem like now, cats can thrive in the RV life. This book will guide you through steps to shorten the adjustment period for your cats, and give you peace of mind in your decision to embark on this new journey.
