  • I'm glad that I bought it to read for myself, not other's quotes.

Why did I buy the 'Times' on ebay? Because most shops now-a-days don't have a Capt.Peacock or a Mrs Slocombe for that matter. You walk into a shop and are left to wander around and out again. If someone does speak, it's usually,"Can I help?" or "Yes mate?" I hate both of these expressions. I'd sooner they just confront me and raise their eyebrow questioning. At 73 I don't want to go exploring through a maze of clothing racks in some dimly lit warehouse. I know that I can no longer walk into a shop, get my bearings then be asked pleasantly,"Yes Sir, may I be of assistance?" hence the job title SHOP ASSISTANT. Alas, these days are gone - Hello Ebay! Despite the couple of days it takes for posting, I do most of my purchasing on line. It saves a fortune in fuel, keeps the mind nimble and is ...

  • very emotional

Brilliantly written. Very witty considering the conditions and stress they were under. The Editors and workers on the newspaper should have had more recognition and awards. A great morale boster.
