You can get away with a wet vac and a spray bottle for a few spots, but for this price the refurbished Rugdoctor was far easier and better to use. In my case I had a 13 yr old mattress to clean. It took me 7 times going over the whole mattress with litres and litres of diy shampoo and warm water before the water ran fairly clean, the filth was gone and the mattress looked brand new. The rugdoctors automatic spray nozzle with stiff brush head to agitate the fibres and powerful visible suction all in one movement was a real help but it still took a long time. At the end it left the mattress slightly damp but it dried out completely over a radiator within 3 hours. It would be pretty difficult to have done all that with a wet vac and a spray bottle. I then did the landing in about 30 mins. It had years of embedded dog urine and dirt. I was amazed at the result. If you have pets this is generally useful to have and very easy to use. The only drawback is the hose should be 2 foot longer, and you have to be careful the machine doesn't topple over. The refurbished machine I bought looked brand new and even came with a small sample bottle of Rugdoctor carpet shampoo to make 4 litres which had been opened but barely used. This is a great deal and a useful machine. Read full review

I paid £50 less for a refurbished cleaner, it's not bad but found its not anything special to warm water in a spray bottle and a 1400w wet and dry vacuum (which is more versatile). The most irritating part was finding out that being "refurbished" it only has a 3 month warranty! Surely, if it was a good functioning unit, it would come with the standard warranty?!

Had my eye on one of these for a while. When I saw a refurbished one for half the price I had to go for it. So glad I did, it looks brand new to me, and works perfectly. Results are just as good as the big rug doctor that I have rented in the past, obviously will just take longer, but so handy that I can use it in the car too.

they rent this brand in our local supermarket. i could hire one , or, for 3 times the hire price , buy one. as our cat is getting old we would hire one a lot. it's light, easy to move around, cleans the carpet in seconds and is easy to clean and put away.

Works brilliant on my 6 month old carpets nylon that had some stains. I went over the spots with the spray, then a few times with the brush and a few times with the suction, and they were gone. I managed to do 3 room carpets about 5' by 4' in under a hour. Because I read the instructions and didnt over spray, they were dry later that day. The machine itself is not too heavy. They only thing is the water containers could do with being flat at the top, so they have somewhere to sit when filling. I know they did it for the sleek design, but it is a pain if you trying to fill it with water and then the detergent and dont want to hold the container during this. Tides away easy too. It does have a seperate carrying handle for getting it into a car etc. I didnt find the noise was any louder than any other carpet machine. Its easy to wipe a cloth over it for cleaning. Nothing needed for set up, just fill with water and detergent that comes with it, plug it in and your ready. Very good value for money, as I got a refurbished one.Read full review
